Getting Started Guide
Choosing a Screen Saver
When you leave your computer running unattended, a screen saver can be started
to prevent monitor “burn in.” KDE includes many screen savers which you can
select and test using standard dialog boxes.
CAUTION: Because some monitors change to power-saving
mode if no activity occurs for a set time, you may not see the
screen saver that you select except during testing. This is a
more energy-efficient use of your monitor, though it’s not as
fun to look at.
To select a KDE screen saver:
1.
Choose Settings|Desktop|Screen Saver (or select the Desktop|Screen
Saver section within the KDE Control Center).
The screen saver selection dialog box appears (see Figure 44).
FIGURE 44. In the Screen Saver Selection dialog box you select and configure a
KDE screen saver.
2.
From the drop-down list of screen savers, select the one you want to
use.
KDE includes several dozen screen savers.
3.
Choose the Setup button to configure how the screen saver operates.
For example, you can configure how many objects appear on screen, or
how fast they move.
Each setup dialog box is different, depending on the screen saver that you
selected.
